Irene Kim Asbury. Esq., is a graduate of the Seton Hall University School of Law with her Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where she studied International Relations with a concentration in American Government. Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Asbury most recently served as the Secretary of the Board of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU), where she was also the Agency’s Records Custodian. She also established the Agency’s first (1st) electronic filing system; planned all board meetings and statewide public hearings; and, drafted all agendas and resolutions.
Ms. Asbury has extensive public and private sector legal experience, with her past work in government influencing her current approach to addressing the needs of clients. She has knowledge and experience in local government law, including but not limited to the Open Public Records Act (OPRA); the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA); Local Public Contracts Law (LPCL) issues; labor and employment law matters; rent control; the drafting of resolutions and ordinances; the preparation and review of bid documents and specifications; and drafted contract agreements on behalf of municipalities. She has also handled public housing and Section 8 matters; landlord/tenant cases; and, debt collection. She also has experience representing municipalities and private clients in various criminal courts and has served as the Municipal Prosecutor in the Town of West New York, as well as the Assistant Municipal Prosecutor in the City of Hoboken, the Township of North Bergen and the City of Union City.
Ms. Asbury regularly represents campaigns during election cycles and has served on Election Day legal teams for New Jersey gubernatorial, senatorial and legislative candidates.
