With over ten (10) years of experience, John Peter Kaplan, Esquire handles matters on a wide range of subjects, including general advice and assistance, various municipal/government law matters, contract negotiations, real estate, land use and litigation. Mr. Kaplan has served several municipalities as legal counsel handling such matters as drafting ordinances and resolutions, creating employment contracts, negotiating and drafting employment contracts with bargaining units, conducting employee grievance and disciplinary hearings, and drafting other contract agreements on behalf of municipalities. Additionally, Mr. Kaplan has also handled matters involving public housing authorities and Section 8 based housing complexes, as well as representing local housing authorities in mixed financed redevelopment transactions, environmental remediation of urban properties for public housing developments, and extensive litigation projects concerning the title to housing authority property.
Mr. Kaplan has extensive experience in real estate transactions and real estate development, including, but not limited to, drafting and negotiating contracts for purchase and sale of real estate, leases, deeds, easements, planned real estate developments and condominium registration documents. Mr. Kaplan is also adept at researching real estate development and local development laws and procedures, obtaining municipal land use approvals, and drafting real estate dispute litigation documents, arguing motions, and attending landlord tenant court. Likewise, Mr. Kaplan has handled legal matters involving commercial and corporate law, such as leading clients through the corporate compliance process for all types of corporate licenses and compliance documents, as well as managing/conducting the commercial litigation. Finally, Mr. Kaplan has extensive experience defending clients in various criminal and quasi criminal courts and has formerly served as Public Defender in two (2) municipalities in the State of New Jersey.
Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Kaplan was an associate in several prominent New Jersey firms, including Fox Rothschild and Rogut McCarthy, as well as his own practice. He also served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Supreme Court of New Jersey, working for the Honorable Virginia A. Long, AJSC.
