Biography
Phillip A. LaPorta is a graduate of Texas Southern University School of Law and of East Stroudsburg University, Pennsylvania, where he studied history and secondary education.
Mr. LaPorta has been practicing law for almost thirty (30) years with experience in local government law, as well as civil and criminal litigation. He is an experienced trial attorney with sixty (60) jury trials to verdict and countless bench trials. Mr. LaPorta had previous experience as a Senior Trial Attorney for Allstate Insurance Company and with the firm of Siegel and Associates, Ridgewood New Jersey, where he handled personal injury, medical negligence, products liability, premises liability and workers compensation matters. He has also served as Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Newark and the Borough of Rutherford. As a partner in the law firm of LaPorta and LaPorta, Mr. LaPorta represented the Borough of Rutherford as Borough Attorney for several years. He also has or is serving the Borough as Special Counsel, Contract Negotiator, and Rent Leveling Board Attorney and handles municipal land use matters, including planning, zoning, and redevelopment. Mr. LaPorta also has extensive experience as a dispute resolution professional and has served for the past thirteen (13) years as a New Jersey PIP arbitrator. Phillip is a husband and devoted father to his daughter.
